How can we make you smile?

Our mission is to help patients live healthier lives. We provide a caring, nurturing environment where your comfort and health is of primary importance.

Bone Grafting

What is bone grafting?

Over time, the jawbone that once supported missing teeth undergoes resorption (atrophy), often resulting in poor quality and insufficient quantity of bone for dental implant placement. In such cases, many patients may not initially qualify as candidates for dental implants. However, with today’s advanced techniques, we often have the ability to regenerate bone where needed. This capability not only allows us to place implants of the proper length and width but also offers the opportunity to fully restore both functionality and aesthetic appearance.

Are you ready to smile with confidence again?

Fredericksburg Dentist & Implant Center , Fredericksburg, VA, has practiced a full scope of periodontal diagnosis and treatment. Even a subtle change in your smile helps you to project an image of self-confidence and high personal esteem. When you feel good about yourself, it shows in your appearance.

What is major bone grafting?

Bone grafting is a vital procedure that can restore implant sites with insufficient bone structure—whether due to previous extractions, gum disease, or injuries. For the graft material, we may use bone from a tissue bank or harvest it from your own body, often taking it from the jaw, hip, or tibia (below the knee). Additionally, sinus bone grafts are performed to replenish bone in the posterior upper jaw.
To further support the graft and encourage bone regeneration, we may use special dissolvable membranes placed beneath the gum. This process, known as guided bone regeneration or guided tissue regeneration, protects the graft while promoting the natural healing process. Major bone grafts are typically required to repair significant jaw defects, which can result from periodontal disease, infections, traumatic injuries, tumor surgeries, or congenital conditions. In cases of large defects, we usually use the patient's own bone to achieve the best results. Although the donor bone may be harvested from various sites, we strive to minimize additional surgical procedures outside the oral region.
